Employment renewal

    I've worked in fixed-term employment in a business, part time, for a number of years. I believe I did a good job, and my supervisor is eager for me to return to my position. However the business is intimating that I may have worked there for too long on fixed employment, and as such be no longer suitable to employ, at all. There is no complaint about the quality of my work (far from it), and my responsibilities and hours would be no different than before if I returned to work there.

    This seems strange and more than a little arbitrary.

    How long are you working there continuously? After four years you are entitled to a contract of indefinite duration which may be what they are referring to and may not want to do.

    No you cant give up your statutory rights. Are you currently working there? The four years has to be continuous with no breaks between contracts

    Yeah, I'm currently working there, and have been for about 8 years, but with different pay scales. No breaks.

    Are you paid directly by then or as a self employed contractor? If the former then it sounds as though you are effectively a permanent employee.

    2 or more contracts totalling 4 years service will entitle you to permanent employment / contract.

    A CID can not be awarded if the employer makes a valid business case prior to the qualifying contract.
