Flexi leads for large dogs, cord not tape

    Hi,

I've been using flexi leads for a few years now. A while ago flexi introduced "tape" leads, along with the classic "cord" leads.

I don't know how they work out for other people, but for me they're a complete pain in the ar$e. Even when I'm constantly juggling the lead around so it doesn't get twisted, it still does, and then it gets stuck.

Flexi still sells corded leads, but only for small and medium dogs. Does anyone know a source where I could still buy flexi leads for a large (35kg) dog that use a cord instead of a tape? It doesn't have to be the actual flexi brand, as long as they're reliable.

    Thanks!

Have you tried amazon? I loved my tape one when Bailey was injured.. then again I've had my ankles sliced by other peoples metal/chord ones so put me off them for life. I wonder if Flexi are moving away from them for safety? A nurse we know had a patient in who was getting their toe sewed onto their hand after the finger was cut off with a chord flexi.

Amazon might be worth checking out, I found this one anyway:
    https://www.amazon.com/Retractable-FuPany-Walking-Medium-Anti-Slip/dp/B0721PRTBG/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1503660438&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=flexi+lead+cord&psc=1

    Thanks, I'll root around there.

To be honest I can't see the corded ones being any less dangerous. Especially with them not retracting all the time (as soon as it's wet or a bit twisted). Also if safety was the issue, I'd reckon they would have replaced small/medium ones as well. But small/medium ones are still available with cords. Probably they deemed cords not strong enough for heavier dogs...

I have a cord one that I use for my collie sometimes. She wouldn't be as heavy as 35kg but she's a fierce puller so needed something strong.

I ended up getting mine in Supervalu and have been very happy with it.

Aldi/Lidl usually have them too in their dog stuff but I think they're usually a bit later in the year - more late sept/oct time?

Would you perhaps consider a long line rather than a flexi-lead? You can tie a few knots in it for control when letting out. Then just loop it on your hand/elbow to reel in and release at your own pace to let out. Flexi-leads deservedly have a very poor reputation nowadays. I threw mine out (one of the few things I didn't pass on/donate/recycle from the pup phase) and find that my long cord dries really fast (since it's not in a plastic cartridge) and is extremely easy to control.
