Presbyopia and using reading glasses

So I'm middle aged and find it now difficult to read up close. I'll have to get an eyesight exam and get it sorted properly, but I just started using those cheap reading glasses from time to time which work fine.

Now I have a new laptop with a high res screen so I'm basically going to need to use glasses all the time with it or just adjust the display to a font size that I don't need to use glasses with.

My question though is about switching to using glasses to much and if this has a negative effect when not using them. I.e. it feels very disconcerting taking them off and the time it takes to adjust to normal use; as in I'm creating a dependency on using glasses.

TLDR will using reading glasses more often mean that will quickly end up not being able to get by without them?

Wearing glasses will not make your vision worse and will not change your eyes in any way.

People often worry that they will become dependent on glasses. You wear glasses so that you get normal, sharp vision. When you don't wear them you have poor vision. So the problem is not the glasses, but rather the fact that wearing glasses highlights how bad your vision really is without them.

If wearing glasses makes your vision clear, wear them.

Much thanks for that - makes great sense as you've explained. I suppose it seems an irrational thought but it comes from being used to naturally switching from long to near vision and wondering if what fixes near will affect this ability to refocus on far.
