    Sent from my iPad
The car was in the shop for 3days for diagnosis and the service and when I took the car to an independant specialist they had the issue diagnosis and works complete by lunchtime the next day.
The quote for works in BMW in Dublin was €3700.00. The independant BMW SPECIALISTS charged me €1100.00.
My overall experience with BMW is they only want to extract as much money from customers as possible. There is no element of customer service involved and everyone I spoke to hid behind the phrase they have all become very comfortable using (I have verified this with a number of friends and colleagues that have had similar experiences) OUR HANDS ARE TIED BMW SET OUR PRICES.

Garage name removed, please do not post it again.

I like someone complaining about being ripped off when the first line is "Sent from iPad"

Going to a premium brand dealership located in the most expensive area of the capital city was never really going to be the cheapest repair option though, was it?

Of course someone with 1/2 the equipment and 1/4 of the overheads can do the job for less.

I'll never understand how people go to glass house main dealers and get offended by the price then rave about the fact that an independent fella in an industrial park somewhere will do it for less. Surely if you done an iota of research before picking your chosen repairer you wouldn't have to unnecessarily blacken the name of the dealer.

What did they actually do wrong bar be more expensive?

Some very good BMW indi's around dublin and their prices are ok. 2 in particular but would not post their names. One guy actually does jobs for a very large BMW garage when they cannot sort them out them selves.Fact.

Main dealers charge more ~ shock, horror.

In other news ~ water is wet and taxes are unfair!

That's not exclusive to BMW though.

Sent from my 8 years old PC.

Main BMW dealers will only use BMW parts which are generally more expensive. Main dealers charge about twice the hourly rate for work than indys. If you job was labor intensive the price difference is understandable.

Always get several quotes from several dealers. Ask if the main dealer work is worth the extra to you. If it is not then go to an indy. There is no grand conspiracy here. I have had good and bad experiances with main dealers, and good and bad with indys, Its a free market and I am free to do whatever I choose.

The main dealers also follow BMW's repair instructions.... which often involves replacing entire assemblies instead of replacing the part of the assembly that failed.

The dealers hands are tied on that to a certain extent as the individual part in the assembly may not be orderable through the system.
I've slightly chipped the lens on the reversing camera on my i3.... if I went to the dealer the only available solution from them would be to replace the ~€600 rear camera assembly.

Alternatively I have the repair manuals and a suitable lens I got for €5 on ebay....
