My friend is from outside the EU. She has been living and working here in Ireland for a few years on a work visa.
She is currently pregnant and her boyfriend is Irish. Where she works has in the past allowed woman to take longer maternity/paternity and has kept there jobs open.
She mentioned to me that she is thinking of staying at home with the child for a while after her maternity leave is up due to the high cost of childcare. Her boyfriend would be in a financial position to let her do this for a while until the baby gets a bit older.
I know that a pregnant woman in Ireland is allowed 26 or 27 week maternity leave. I also know she would be entitled to get children allowance after the baby is born.

What is her position if she wants to take longer time off considering she is in Ireland on a working visa?

She would be protected by employment law like any other new mother.

Yes to children's allowance the child is a citizen why would the mother not get children's allowance?

There is no such thing as a working visa unless someone is talking about "Working Holiday Authorisation"

Other than that a non EEA national could be working with a stamp 1 and a work permit or limited work under a stamp 2 or unlimited conditions under a stamp 4. There are some other stamps.

Well she has an Irish citizen child now so should start the process to get the stamp 4 and remove the need for a work visa.
