Doctor not on Medical Council Register

This was the most appropriate forum I could think of, mods please move if there is better.

A friend of mine in a rural area (seriously, it's not me) has put their doctor's name and stated registration number in the search page of the Medical Council register to find that the doctor does not appear.

What are the implications for my friend of continuing to attend a doctor who is not on the register?

Of course not being on the register might not always be because of something bad. Perhaps they just missed the fee date, but are they then still registered? Should the doctor be continuing to work if not registered?

Just to clarify, when the number alone is put into the search box on the website, do the doctor's details appear?

Sometimes doctors are registered but for some reason don't come up..
If I was your friend, I'd contact the medical council and clarify

No. Nothing on the number alone.

The other people in the practice all appear, though I realise that might not mean anything.

Seems dodgy but you'd wonder if there is a benign explanation, particularly if there are other doctors in the practice.

Working/advertising yourself as a medical practitioner without Medical Council registration is an offence.

I'll get my friend to check. They're worried now because of advice this doctor gave them which another doctor STRONGLY disagreed with.

I'll get them to contact the Medical Council.

To update this, a search on the reg no was still showing no result this morning, so my friend filled in an enquiry form on the website and lo and behold the registration is showing as valid now.

    Ireland and computers, I suppose.
