Pearse - The Station that Time Forgot

A couple of weeks ago I was standing on the platform at Pearse Station waiting for a train. I looked at the board and noticed I had 4 minutes to spare, enough time to run over to the other platform and use the toilet.
As I entered the toilet I heard my train arrive. I thought it was just early and was going to wait there for a few minutes before leaving.

Then I noticed the 2 different types of display boards on the platform were showing 2 different times.
The board with regular information (next train, time due, stops) was correct. But the second board, which only shows ‘Pearse Station’ and the time was incorrect by about 2-3 minutes.

    Is this not madness?
How can a modern train station, in a capital city have a (digital!!) clock with the wrong time?

Luckily I made it back in time and caught the train.

However, two weeks later, the clock is still wrong……...

As it's inside the 10 minute window they'll claim that the clock is actually right ! :D

Have you pointed it out to someone in Irish Rail?

The one on the northbound platform is actually fast by 4 minutes (or was last night) so no risk of causing you to miss a train but still a mess.

If only they had employees to monitor the accuracy of their own systems

You want information AND it to be accurate?

I take it your referring to the white displays that are on the platform that they put in a few years ago and not the original red led displays that are accurate? The red ones are hooked up to the older CIS system that works properly even though its donkeys years old and using DOS afink, the while displays never worked right they run off a newer windows pc but it was never accurate it would always be out of sync by a few seconds then the gap would get larger the longer it was left running.

the notion of master/slave clocks must be new to railways.

It makes a lot of sense to be honest. It they've multiple clocks running at different times, they've a lot more chance of actually managing to be on time according to one of them

    Thanks for this info.

It begs the question, why not switch off the new boards? Are they used for anything?

Ironic given the very important part rail played in the standardisation of time as we know it!
