    Hi all,

As you can see from the title l am clueless when it comes to tax, P45 etc...

I recently started a new job. Before l got it, l was informed that if l was drawing stamps (paying PRSI) that while l was unemployed l could be entitled to something. I was unemployed for 2 months, it was my decision to leave my job.

I am not entitled to any benefits or dole, l dont qualify. Live at home with parents and income was assessed.

    So my questions are:
Am l entitled to money after l left my job? (Cant see how tbh)

How can l claim tax back? What do l need?

    Thanks

Your question(s) is a bit all over the place.

You might need to do a little reading to ask it clearly.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/jobs-and-pensions/index.aspx

If you ceased employment earlier in the year, you would have been provided with a P45 showing your pay and tax for 2017. This should have been provided to your new employer when you started recently. If you have overpaid tax during 2017, your new employer should refund you through your wages.

How do l know if l over paid tax?

Your new employer will work it out so long as they use 5he details off the p45 and a cumulative tax credit cert issues from Revenue for you.

In the time you have been unemployed and not been in receipt of any taxable income/benefits; you will have had a build up of unused credits and rate band. When your new employer runs their payroll based on your p45, these unused credits and rate band come into play. Depending on what you have earned and what tax you have paid already for 2017, you may be entitled to a refund of some or all of the tax paid since January 2017.

Just check with your payroll area for now.

I know its like a broken record at this stage , but what I would do is register/login at www.revenue.ie and click on '' view latest tax credit certificate '' .
There are a few hints on this document that will let you know if you are due tax back .
