I am undergoing a means test for JSA soon. I have looked up the information page on the welfare website about it but it hasn't helped; my query is do you think I will be entitled to anything given the following circumstances:

    - married with one child
    - husband earns €30k per annum in PAYE job
    - additional income of small farm profit from tillage of approx. €5k per annum
    - renting house at present, just been approved mortgage for self build so obviously we have savings built up for that.

Will the inspector consider the savings to be the same as income and that we should live off that, rather than any entitlement to JSA?

    35 k less prsi is about 34k/654 per week.Less 60 disregard is 594.
    60% is 356.
The max for 2+1 is 193+128+30 ie 351.
You don't qualify even with no savings.
If I have underestimated the prsi, you can adjust the calculations.

If you have more than 20k in savings ,the capital is assessed as means as follows:
    Formula

    Weekly Means

    First €20,000

    Nil

    Next €10,000

    €1 per €1,000

    Next €10,000

    €2 per €1,000

    Excess of €40,000

    €4 per €1,000

Op, if money is earmarked for a residence I believe they may disregard it for the purpose of the means test.
