Arch tech instead of architect stage 3

    Hi all,

We are in the process of trying to design a home. I know an architectural technologist who specialises in BIM, and I was initially hoping to design the layout of the house, specify type of insulation, building materials, glazing, and a number of other general specifications, and pay the arch tech to do up the drawings for us.

However, we are still thinking that an architect might be the way to go, to bring their experience and joined-up thinking about the various options with respect to sustainability, renewables, etc. vs. cost.

One question we have at the moment is this: if we employed an architect for the first two of the four stages (initial design & developed design), could we then employ an architectural technologist to essentially do much of the work of the third stage (detailed design), doing up the detailed drawings and specifications to go for tender, etc.? This would probably save a few thousand euro.

Apologies if this question has been asked before.

Simple answer is yes, but, before engaging an architect, discuss with them.
