Repeating years & fees?

About to fail the year of my current course and I'm looking into repeating it. Going to have to take a year off for the fees though, going to apply for deferral.

I was just wondering if anybody else had went through the same experience since for something that's at least (I think) relatively common, there's very little about it online. I understand the deferral application process, but I'm unsure of certain details like when exactly fees for the repeat have to be paid. Is it literally the same dates as if there were no deferral, just with a year between, or do certain fees need to be paid in advance?

Any kind of input/advice would be appreciated, thanks.
