Immobiliser working on spare key but not main key

I have a Honda insight 2011. Today when I tried to start the car a green key was flashing on the dash. I read on the net that it could be the immobiliser, so I tried the spare key and the car starts fine. I tested both keys a few times and the spare is the only one that will start the car. Has anyone come across this before?

Key might be damaged, or battery flat.

Try leaving the key on a wireless charging pad for a few hours. That sometimes works as a temporary measure.

    Battery in the key?

Yeah I've had it before (also a Honda), probably the keys battery.

I didn't think the key battery was necessary to deactivate the immobilized.

Ya it's a funny thing, one key works, the other doesn't.

I could be wrong actually, I remember trying a flip key and the module was too far away from the key barrel to get a signal from the immobiliser. Doesn't really make sense that it's the battery now that you mention it TFB.

You could try switching the batteries, see what happens.
