Ive been looking at a few Toyota Hilux over in England and there seems to be good value. Which is the better version, the 2.5 or 3.0 litre
Is either version prone to problems?

Can't speak for the hilux but in the dmax the 2.5 is waaaay underpowered. So much so that the 3.0 is as easy or easier on fuel.

A friend of mine said the opposite about his D-max. He said the 3.0 killed him on diesel whereas the 2.5 is much better. But I suppose he never uses a cattle box on it as he has a cattle trailer for the tractor

Is his 2.5 newer than 131? The engine changed for that new model to a 2.5 only with 3.0 discontinued. They are meant to be a much more economical engine. The 2.5 I had was 04 and I changed for a 3.0 of the same model.

I can only speak for padjero but you run the 3.2 far cheaper than a 2.5.

The 3.0 are high geared & any decent load will have you at lower gears.
The 2.5 has better ratio for loads

    Ford ranger?

They don't really sell in Ireland. Anyone I've talked to wants a Hilux.

It's not for myself, just trying to turn a few pound

Am thinking of replacing my hilux with an extremely comfortable tractor.

Every message I have to daily is on the way to our outside ground anyway and that way I wouldnt have to drive teenagers around.

I rented a dmax a few weeks ago (2011 2.5) and thought in comparision to my 2.5l 2007 L200 she was a mule on juice.

BIL has a newer Dmax twin turbo and he says she is a truck to pull. The new rangers are also lovely but watch gearbox

Yep, the herd number is no good in our neck of the woods though. You might need to bring along a letter from revenue stating he's registered as a farmer.
Ring the tax office and get a list of everything they need you to bring in. They really acted the bollix with me when I was trying to do the same but luckily I had my homework done. If it's an import you'll need it weighed aswell within 3days of taxing it. And your insurance cert will have to reflect agricultural use.
