Good luck - Teachers & Parents

My one and only child is about to start Junior Infants (Naíonáin Bheaga - sp?) in a class of 30 in a Gaelscoil.

I come from a long line of teachers, however I am not, but I have the greatest respect for you all.

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone going back - especially to the JI teachers being faced with large classes! I don't know how you do it, but thank you, you are all deadly. I will tell my son to listen and be extra good and I will not send yogurts/frubes in.

Fairly pointless thread - only that I'm coming to terms with handing over my kid to a system over which I have no control, but I have a lot of trust in teachers in general.

Tissues at the ready for next week.

Lovely post. Keep your tears until you get out of sight. Even the seemingly most distressed child settles shortly after the parent leave, once they see mammy or daddy aren't upset too.

Oh and infant teachers everywhere will love the Frube free child- no Capri-Sun either, if you didn't hear :)

You do have some control, you have chosen this school , you will be meeting with the teachers, you will be helping your child to learn.

I always have tissues ready for the first few days........and not for the kids lol. It's very hard on parents especially so if the child in question is their first or only child.
I know of some schools that have a room available for parents to have a cup of tea and a chat with each other, away from the classroom, on the first day. I think this is a nice idea(although I know not feasible in all schools) as it gives parents a chance to get to know each other and realise that they're all on the one boat.
Please don't ever feel like you're handing your child over and won't get to have much of a day. As the saying goes it takes a village to raise a child.
Best of luck to you and your child on the first day.
