Butane BBQ regulator/valve question

I've attached 2 photos below of the regulator and the cylinder. For the life of me, I just can't get them to fit (I'm new to gas BBQs, they are the work of the devil if you ask me).
From YouTube videos, it appears that I have either the wrong type of cylinder or regulator. Is there something I'm doing wrong or can the regulator be swapped out.

Most new BBQ's these days are set up for Propane and have Propane regulators fitted as standard. You have a yellow cylinder which is Butane, so the easiest thing to do is just take the cylinder back and swap it.
