Do you have to have a Prime account for this to work?

Nope, works perfectly fine without Prime.

Oooh, tempted! I would just want it to play music from my Spotify and Google Play accounts. Would this be ok?

if you have a premium account with Spotify then this will work and I presume it is the same with Google Play
actually they are bringing in a limited Spotify for free account users as well soon

I have the Echo Dot paired with a bluetooth speaker and works brilliantly but the Dot even on its own is decent

so the Echo is advised if you don't own a good bluetooth speaker as it is comparable to the UE Boom

    Works great with Spotify,
Won't work with Play unless you use bluetooth from another device (phone, tablet etc)...when you do this it just acts as a bluetooth speaker but you can still use voice to up/down volume.

Would the Google home be better option for Google play music? This also seems to have taken a price drop. Silly the way this stuff is not for sale here

    That's a good price. It's £147.99 on Amazon.

    It's £99 on maplin.co.uk +£10 shipping.

I have two echo dots but think I'll get the GHome to try it out.

Have a birthday coming up soon, and will undoubtedly receive amazon vouchers for it from a few reliable family members.

Been trying to decide between this echo and Google home.

With both devices being price dropped in unison, can we assume new models are imminent?

I bought the Echo in Argos in Strabane last week. Unfortunately I am not able to download the app for iOS.When I change the region in my App Store account it insists on asking for my credit card details.
When I input the details, the card is associated with an Irish address and they will not allow me access the app.
How do others manage to get the app on an iPad or iPhone ?

Just use the Web site... alexa.amazon.co.uk

Thanks Gerry. This is only the website for Alexa which will allow me to set up the wifi connection. It will not allow me download the app because it is a UK Store. I am looking for a way to download the app on to my iPhone or iPad.

Set up a UK iTunes account and get it from there.

That's my problem. It is not possible to set up a UK account with an Irish credit card.

I often switch between UK and IE stores. I use the same Irish credit card for both. I use the actual Irish billing address as much as possible (street, town county etc) and use parcel wizard post code (BT36 4LB). Never had an issue. Perhaps some credit cards work better than others.

You can configure the Echo from here also. No need to download an app.
If you go to this address from a PC, you will be able to activate the Echo and set it up from the browser.
