Ryanair baggage charges

Just wondering if there's a particular trend with regards Ryanair baggage charges. Does it follow flight fares, airport charges, timing of when booked or just dependent on the numbers checking in bags for a particular flight?

Baggage charges are fixed. There are a few different charges based on the weight and length of flight. They're posted on the website.

No, I don't think they're fixed. Website just says "Fee varies depending on the route and travel dates selected" and those fees seem to vary from €10 to €60. I am pretty sure I have seen offer to check in baggage for €20 and then a week or so later, same flight itinerary, it's €35 to check in baggage. It seems to fluctuate?

Correct the fees only vary depending on the weight of the bag, route and time of travel (peak or off-peak).
They don't vary for any of the reasons you suggested (number of bags, time of booking etc). So the price you see for a particular route travelling on a particular date remains the same. Though I think the 'business' fare includes a free bag.

Interesting though...I see a fee called 'cabin baggage drop off service' for €5. I wonder is this a sign of things to come! Anyone heard about it?

Cheers LiamDelta. You've answered my query - I was wondering if there was an optimum time to book checked in luggage but if that's the case it's all the same when I do it. I must have been mistaken or comparing different flights when I thought the price had fluctuated for same flight previously.

It's a service that they have copied from easyJet.
Because they have to offload so many bags at the gate, they are offering people to check in their hand luggage before clearing security at a designated check-in desk for a fiver, as a convenience really so you don't have to lug your bags with you through the airport and security only to have them gate checked anyway. EasyJet and Ryanair now charge for this service however Aer Lingus offer this for free. EasyJet place a priority tag on these bags so they will be delivered first on the reclaim carousel.

Would be handy if you had liquids over 100ml but didn't want to pay full whack for a bag.
