01 caddy tdi van won't start

    went out this morning to start my van but wont, will turn over but no start, no warning lights on and ECU diagnostic socket seems to not be working so cant plug in to see whats up

    any help please

    Try the engine control relay, common enough on these.

    It could be the glow plugs.

    Yeah they can go on the spot, happened to a Citroen xsara I owned at least twice. A lot of the problem is if you don't let the amber light go out before starting the engine.

    no amber light on this one at all

    I meant the amber light that comes on when you turn the ignition that needs to go out before starting.

    yes i dont have that light and took a wire from the battery to the shut off switch on the injector pump and wont start either so not the relay then

    I tried relay 109 in today but still won't start

    Get someone else to turn it over while you look at the exhaust. Gray smoke as it turs over means you have fuel and likely a heat/compression issue. If no smoke you're not getting fuel.

    Another problem common on these is the ecu giving up due to water.
    It's situated under the wiper on the driver side. Water gets in and corrodes unit.

    Might be worth taking a look to see if it's dry or wet and the general appearance.

    Time to get a wiring diagram and do some checking to see why that diagnostic socket is dead, if it is dead.
