I don't know if there's much interest in this, but have been enjoying it over the past couple of days. Standard of golf has been quite high and, from an almost impossible position overnight, Europe are throwing fair shapes at this. Would be one of the great days if they managed to claw their way back.

Have been watching it as well. Some great golf being played. Serious chip in by Thompson earlier.

Was some shot by Thompson. Nordquist knocks her second to two feet and still loses the hole!

It has been seriously impressive considering only one of the worlds top 10 is in action here. One of the Europe 4-balls was 8 under for their round yesterday and still lost by 2 holes. There are lots of birdies out there, of course, but it's tricky in places and greens are quick and undulating.

Same here, been watching it on and off over the last few days. Quite enjoyable too, apart from both team captains acting the gpbsh1te on the opening tee off.

    What were they doing?

    They had a dance-off :o

Europeans just can't hole the putts like the Yanks. Paula Creamer is extremely unlikeable.

3 hours for 14 holes. Very slow.

    Some putts going in now.

This Nordquist v Thompson match is turning into a classic. Really clutch stuff. If Europe don't take a point there, all hope is abandoned.

Creamer & Kerr, two slow coaches right up at the top, holding the whole show up. Ridiculous the time they take over some of the putts.

I'm convinced The Cheat is going to start letting her caddie hit the shots for her. Some putt there though.

Heard that yesterday. What happened at the A&A that a tv viewer pulled her on.

She marked the ball for an 18 inch putt and instantly replaced it, but about 3 inches to one side to avoid a spikemark

Maybe she did. It was never fully clear and it definitely wasn't as much as three inches, no need to exaggerate. She was pulled up, she accepted the penalty with dignity. Case closed. She's a brilliant golfer, playing some golf today and fair play to her. Nordquist has done absolutely nothing wrong and may still come away with a defeat.

She did, it's clear as day to anyone who saw it. She had no need to mark the ball, barely lifted it off the ground and still managed to replace it in a different place. Case not closed really, she will always be remembered for it.

Didn't see it myself, however the fact they mentioned it yesterday does prove that she will be remembered for it.

I don't agree it's as clear as day. She still disputes it anyway and I don't think denigrating her as "The Cheat" is correct. She made a mistake and paid severely for it. In fact, it will be remembered for the nature and severity of the punishment as for the incident itself. And the manner in which her fellow pros came out overwhelmingly in support of her tells me far more than all those who come online to label her a cheat.

'Towing the line' springs to mind. The fact that she would even contemplate doing something so stupid when leading a major would lead one to wonder if she did it before.

It was nothing like 3 inches. It was a mistake yes but she is not referred to as a cheat on the lpga tour and everyone of note in golf circles defended her. Case closed

You can say case closed all you want, but she'll be remembered for it, like Saltman is in the mens game for his 'indiscretion', and that was nearly 7 years ago.

Anyway, that's my last post on the matter.

Hole on 18 looks to close to the edge, it's about 2 yards from the back.

Saltman was at it constantly though , not just one minor indiscretion that was unintentional . She paid a big price as it cost her a major . Monty had one one time too but he isn't remembered for it

Like I said, the incident will be remembered more for the circumstances in which it came to light and the draconian 4 shot penalty she incurred, precipitating a revision of the rules. But that's it for me on the matter too.

Anyway, that was a truly great matchplay contest and a half was a good result. Not a bad shot played the entirety of it, that I saw anyway.

amazing performance by Lexi Thompson. What a back nine. And absolute credit to Nordqvist to birdie the last to square the match. Incredible golf.

Was looking close for a while. Cathriona Matthew. What are you like. Incredible performance by her

Its a pity it wasn't a bit more competitive.

It looked interesting early on but the Americans started rolling putts in from everywhere and that was pretty much that. Incredible display by Anna Nordquist, though, 3 and a half points out of 4 matches despite crawling out of her sickbed to play in the event. Ultimately, the gulf in class was too much and Europe didn't have enough of that clutch mentality to narrow the gap sufficiently.

Standard in putting was excellent. It seemed that everytime the camera moved a yank was holing out from plus 10 feet.

Golf is a strange game. It is not about class. It is a mental game.

Yeah, some real gut punchers out there today. Thought over the 3 days that the short games among the women in general are getting significantly better, the one area where from my limited viewing, I always feel there is a lot of room for improvement.

Well as they say. It's not the first time she did it, its the first time she got caught.

have to admit I am all for getting the crowd behind. but Paula Creamers antics were above and beyond. Trumpish even

As who say? Specifically what other times are you referring to? Be nice if you can provide an example with clear-cut evidence.

Obviously I can't since this was the first time she got caught. But it would be extremely foolish to think the first time she got caught just happens to be the first time she did it. Its possible, but quite unlikely.

Thursday afternoon's 4:0 really cost them dearly. I know they still lost by more than 4 points but it was a mountain to climb after that. I think the bottom half of the European team were just nowhere near the level of the US. The states just had too much strength right through the full team and when Peterson pulled out injured they lost their "Seve" figure to bring the fire. Could have the makings of a good side in two years time though when Hull, Hall, Pederson and Sagstrom are that bit more mature and stronger. Dare we hope there might even be a Maguire on the team ?

I thought the ladies golf was very entertaining last night. Good play all around most notable for Lexi and Anna in the top match and thought a half was a good result. Some determination for Nordqvist to get that birdie on the last for the half. I was disappointed to see Hall miss the put for a half on the last which I thought she deserved after great playing through the three days.

As far as the Lexi incident at the ANA is concerned it is my understanding that it was quite common in ladies pro golf. A cm here or there doesn't mean a thing but it is the principle of the thing, you should mark your ball and put it back on the same spot. Having said that how many times have you gone to replace a marked ball on a green only to find it falls into a depression that is not a repairable pitch mark. Have you placed it in the depression or the side of the depression???

Happened to me at the weekend. An old unrepaired pitch mark. Ball sitting right down in it. Had to putt out of it. Ball hopped about an inch into the air. Still holed it though :D

You can repair an old ball mark on the green at any time.............

Exactly. The amount of people who think it's ok is baffling, no wonder there is so much cheating going on in the amateur game.

Exactly. The singles proved way more competitive than I expected, and although USA had a clear margin of victory at the end (16.5 - 11.5) Europe pushed them really hard. In fact, the 12 singles points were split 50-50.

Regarding Sky's coverage, I thought Henni Goya's on-course commentary was great. She picked up on the dynamic between Creamer and Hall very well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 573 ✭✭✭Hastentoadd

As a solheim cup goes, this was a good match. Europe could have swung it and that made it exciting. It simply was competitive. A few putts Europes way and it really could have swung things on the last day. And that makes it interesting.

Plus not all Pro's came out and supported her.. They didnt blatantly say she was a cheat how could they! but they hinted at it.
