Finished Floor / Breaking thermal

    Hello,

First time poster, LONG time lurker!

We have just reached floor level on new build. Have gone back and forth and finally decided on doing a finished floor before any further block work.

Could I get opinions on the layers we are doing?

    Hardcore
    Radon Barrier
    100mm concrete subfloor
    60mm x 2 floor insulation staggered (or 150mm)
    UFH
    75mm screed

No thermal blocks were used and wondering if an insulated edge would work in place of thermal blocks?

    Any helpful replies appreciated :)

If you have just reached floor level. Knock down two courses and install the thermal blocks?

As a quantity surveyor id normally advise against going over work like this due to the cost, but honestly, its worth it in this case!

The amount of CPD's ive done over the years and these really do come up alot as making a difference! Plus they can be thrown in very easy! If the blockies are handy you'd get some of the blocks back for use in a wall or for the base of some garden steps or something.

I really don't want to undo work that has been completed. I'm meeting with our BER assessor tomorrow.

What are the advantages of the thermal block? I have spoken to many many builders regarding these blocks and one large contractor I know build 15 houses in the last few months and used thermal blocks in two of those. He build his own and didn't use them.

BER assessor has little to do with this. What does your architect have to say?

Hate putting up these details as are their crap. But this what the Government puts out on this mater.

Architect is no longer involved in the project.

    It's a lot of information!

Sounds like you need someone to oversee the construction details as it would appear that little thought and effort has gone into them.

But if you hang around here long enough some random person on the internet will tell them it's all ok..

+1 on thermal blocks, do it now or for the next 20 years when your house is a bit cold or you get damp you'll think "if only"

I'd also still be adding the insulation strip.
Allow for expansion and collapse of your screed with heat.
