I'm buying a car next week. The garage offered me 2k for my own. I thought it was worth a bit more judging by done deal. Just wondering if I'm better off sucking up the 2k rather than the hassle of done deal for a few quid extra

07 Lexus IS 220d silver executive version with heated cream leather seats
    175,000 km
Pretty clean bar the odd bumper scratch.
    Drives perfectly

Downside to the car is the tax at €994 and that it's 10 years old which I'm told jacks uo insurance.

Anyway what ought I be getting on done deal for it, or should I just take the 2k from the dealer?

You can get scrappage if buying new and some dealers do specials where they offer scrappage on selected 2nd hand models. Alternatively you could sell privately to get the most from your sale but that tax bill would be off putting to most.

Also try other garages. You may get some offering more.

Such a waste to see a lovely car like that go off to scrappage. Sinful waste in my opinion. The older tax regime is a bloody disgrace in this country.

They don't actually scrap cars under these scrappage deals. Scrappage scheme is just another term for the manufacturer giving a discount. It's usually why the they have scrappage terms where the car has to have a valid NCT or is no older than a certain age. The main dealers usually sell them off to the trade.

That's good to hear. Genuine scrap, yes off to the breakers. But a ten year old Lexus probably still solid as a rock (know there was some engine problem with that particular engine) hurts me inside!
The tax system is criminal though

I know the tax is a killer

But bar that it's some machine compared to the other bangers I see at that price range.

    Dial says 7.5 l per 100km
    Nct due May 2018.

    Smashing machine.

It's up on donedeal since yesterday.

    It's the Japanese Mercedes

The consumption on that engine is horrendous and with that stupid 6th gear setup most people go straight for the 250.
Personally I'd haggle with the dealer and go for 2250 and if they agree flog it.
