Has anyone bought a desk from Argos? I'm thinking of buying the 3 drawer corner desk at Argos it's about €180-200. I'm getting a new desk for 5th year so want it to be good quality. So does anyone have info on desks from Argos if you have one?
    Thanks :)

    Is it this:

I had argos desks and furniture in general over the years. Usually i went with argos for cheap and cheerful upgrades and replacements.

They used to do a desk very similar to that one, but with no drawers, for about €60. I used to love it and went through about 3 of them in my life. which was okay, cos they were cheap and cheerful.

At €180 plus delivery fee i'd definitely be looking elsewhere though. Their desks are usually made of chipboard, but they often cheap out and go with thinner sheets (12mm, 15mm) and this results in the desk sagging after a while and struggling to hold anything heavy.

Personally, i'd rather get something like this:

I hope 5th year goes great! Good to be prepared.

I think IKEA have some more interesting stuff than what Argos have if you can find some way to get there and get stuff home. (http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/?N=39767&No=48&Nr=AND%28content.type%3Ap%2Csku.browsable%3A1%29)

It is up to you but personally I do not think 180 euros on a desk like the argos one would be a good use of your / your parents hard-earned cash. I would try to find something cheaper and better if you could.

That desk from Argos looks particularly unexciting. When you are finished studying with it, what use will it be around the house? It looks like it would be difficult to break down and reassemble somewhere else.

Do you have anything lying around at home that you could use as a desk? You could buy legs or trestles at somewhere like ikea and attach them to an old door or something. Or you could buy a little cabinet to go with an existing table.

I would try to keep the costs down, you will find you will need the money more for something else!

So do you think they're a bad quality desk? Money's not really an issue it's just I need a good desk and as you said they were good? Did you find the desk to be good I'll only be using it for homework and study etc. And the desk you've shown I hate desks with metal bars lol!! Thanks tho:)

I am sure it's a grand desk. It just looks very unexciting to me. It is also going to take up a lot of your room. In the old days you needed these big corner desks to hold bulky and heavy CRT monitors. Now it just seems to me like a bit of a waste of space.

I do have the room to be fair but yes I see what you mean. I might shop around another bit but if I can't find anything I'll buy it because 5th year starts next September :) thanks !

Also I shopped everywhere to find one and literally couldn't find any but I'll try again

I think if money isn't an issue, just get a cabinet maker to make one to your exact spec. Probably wouldn't cost any more than 400-500 at most and could be made to fit an alcove etc. of your choice (this is generally what i do of late, have done it 3-4 times now).

Argos stuff is great, but 6 months down the line it's a little wobbly and a year later it's sagging a tad, etc. I like their desks but they've no real lifespan, and the money they want is just excessive in my opinion for what you're getting.

Argos flat pack furniture isn't the best. As someone else said, it'd be grand for a couple of months, but then will begin to loosen.

I'd be going for ikea or the likes. I got a lovely glass top desk with triangular uprights for less than the argos, but not a bit of chip board in sight.

I bought my desk at Woodie's DIY many years ago, maybe eight or so... I'd say Argos would have a comparable quality...

Anyway, it serves its purpose to this day, however the "wooden" veneer has faded and somehow the colour has gone from light brown to green-ish...
