It's that time of year again where students get their results and there's adverts in the papers for courses. I look at them all and what can I do?

I have been to college twice. At 17, I didn't really know what I wanted to do but I done a three year course which I ended up hating halfway through but I completed it regardless. I regret this decision because I would have to pay full fees for further college.

Despite this I did go back to college again but this career has never really took off. I don't want to go into too much detail but i'm working in a place where I'm treated as the office scapegoat. I need to leave and make changes. I'd move to Dublin in a heartbeat except even after study it's a minimum wage job. Maybe a little over but not by much. I don't think you would get very far in Dublin on minimum wage. Or have a house on minimum wage outside of Dublin. It's not something I can continue with.

So the lack of money and being treated like crap in work has me thinking again of what do I do with my life?

Full time college is out of the question, I just cannot afford full fees again, so I am looking at evening and distance learning courses. I honestly have no idea what I would like to do.

There's an evening course in accounting. That's a good career with an OK wage but it's something I never gave any thought to before and I don't know if I have the aptitude for numbers. It's just a course that can be done part time. So I don't even know if I want to do something like this.

I do have an interest in science. I absolutely loved a science module the first time I was in college over 10 years ago. My second course was science related. I'm looking at another part time course in biomedical manufacturing. Which is essentially factory work in medical companies. There's often good money in factory work or there used to be. It's a short course, three months long so it's something I could use and work at getting out of the place I'm in now. Without this employers might think that I'd leave and go back to what I'm doing now. I did have an interview earlier in the year for something unrelated and it was pretty much said to me that they understand it's something until something better comes up. So they think I'm going to leave as soon as something else comes up. But I couldn't say that I absolutely hate what I'm doing and I have no intention of leaving anytime soon. At least it's something I can show that I'm somewhat serious. But factory work isn't a career but it might pay better so that I can study more in the future. And it's something I can achieve in a few months rather than a longer course.

So where do I go from here? I'm just stuck in a dead end job with no way out with no real clue on what I want to do in life.

Its hard to suggest anything without knowing what courses youve studied and what sort of work you currently do. Theres lots of different options you could take but if youre set on pursuing a short course it might be a good idea to do some research on jobs available in that area and what the qualification requirements are as the competition for jobs is so high and allot of graduates have masters and PHD's.
A few years ago I did a 3 month evening course as I was told it would qualify me to work in a particular area, half way through the course me and the rest of the students discovered it was only one module and wouldn't qualify any of us. Will this course lead to a fetac level 5 or 6? if so it sounds unlikely that it will be a high enough qualification to find employment in biomedical manufacturing, the standard is usually a good BA or Masters. Maybe im wrong but do some research first before investing time and money.
Postgraduate courses are very expensive in Ireland, would you consider studying abroad? Most European countries have very small fees, some have no fees at all. Belgium and Germany do BA and masters courses through English in a range of subjects and the fees are nothing compared to here.

Could you apply to large companies like PayPal, Hertz or Google in Dublin? I have a friend working in Google who gets a very good wage and the job offers lots of perks. Most of those large companies pay their staff extremely well. It could be something to help you save to get into an area where youd like to work.
