I'm an 18 year old with 3 years of college left after which I hope to join the RAF as a pilot. I know specifically for pilot you need to be a British national. Can I claim British Citizenship through my dad, who is a British citizen. I was born in Ireland and have lived here all my life.

Also will this whole Brexit ****e effect it in anyway cause obviously I won't be applying for about 3 years.

Where was your father born? If he was born in the UK and was a British citizen from birth then I suspect you are already a British citizen. There is an online checker at gov.uk

Don't you have to be a British citizen from birth to be a pilot?

Naturalised citizens are excluded I thought.

If he is claiming British citizenship through a British citizen parent and he is born after 1983 (a given as he is 18) then he would be a British citizen by descent; naturalisation doesn't come into it. There are a small number of circumstances in which such a person is not a British citizen and the OP will need to check those.

You only have to have lived there for a period of time before applying

Is this still the Travel part of boards?

The British Embassy in Dublin should be able to direct you if not answer your question.

I'd imagine that if you get an application form for a British passport it will make it very clear if you qualify. Can't see why you'd need a lawyer.

    RAF Eligibility Check:

apparently they accept Irish Republic nationals. The residency will rule you out.
