Very impressive on MW and LW. I didn't check out HF. You can hear the two MW pirates in Monaghan and Donegal 981 and 846. And low power BBC outlets from NI on 720, 774, 873 and even 792 very faint. Manx on 1368 is strong as are Radio Scotland 810 and Wales 882. Wales 657 and Scotland 585 low power are also faint but there as is 5 Live 990 from Wales.

You could post this on the Hobby Radio forum as well.

Thanks, it's very much a work in progress and will be for a while and it may be offline now and again.

Unfortunately, the LW/MW band is suffering a lot of RFI front the sdr and broadband modem switch mode power supplies. When connected just to my battery Tecsun LW and MW is amazingly quiet and so I need to get some linear power supplies.

I'm hoping to get the 50 meter loop up today that should make a big difference to SW.

The good thing about the mobile broadband set up is that you can install it anywhere you have power or in the middle of a field and use solar, as long as the modem has signal you'll pick it up anywhere.

Excuse my ignorance, what is this exactly?

It's an SDR ( Software Defined Radio )

Basically turns analogue radio into digital so you can listen on your computer or mobile device.

The waterfall gives a visual of the entire shortwave spectrum and below about 30 KHz to 30 MHz and you can see signals without having to tune and listen for them.

The web sdr's allow you to listen to radio stations from all over the globe where ever there is one on line many stations won't be available on the internet.

There are some English broadcasts at different times of the day and you can catch some interesting topics that you would otherwise not catch on internet radio because you will not tune into a station while looking for another with internet radio because you just press on a station and up it comes so the surprise of catching something interesting is always there in Shirtwave.

My SDR is down now while I work in the 50 meter loop, yes it's quiet large and I'm rather excited to see what signals it can pull in with the Bonito Amplifier.

Loop is up , had to clear a lot of bushes , it's more of a rectangle than a loop.

My Friend who is an amateur licence holder gave me a hand thanks EI4HKB ! :-)

    Taking a break for dinner.

Ok work done, the loop or antenna is now around 50 meters, it's a rectangle, only way it could be done but it appears to be pulling in some serious signals, I had to set the jumper in the Bonito amp to low it was overloading the SDR and at that it's still slightly over loading but hopefully it should be ok.

The Buzzing on Lw and Mw is still the noise from the switch mode power supplies supplying the SDR and Broadband modem. I'm going to look for linear supplies.

Check it out and tell me what ye think of the new antenna.

    Cheers.

Now time to crack open a Beer !

A HUGE improvement it seems to me.
Maybe a lot due to the time of night, I dunno.

Great to play with ...... thanks ;)

Yes the gain is far better. But Night reception is usually also better but it's pulling in a lot of signals which I would otherwise not have received previously.

Different SW bands become active depending on conditions, time of day, sun cycles etc. And a lot of stations don't transmit until evening.

Unfortunately with LW/MW reception there are a lot of over lapping frequencies which can be nulled out with a loop on a rotator. The solid loops work best for this.
