Hey guys.Looking to repeat my LC
I already have 7 subjects - 6 HL and one OL
I am looking to do 2 more since I struggle a bit with HL english and I need 545 points.
I have to choose 2 subjects between:
    Agricultural science/Economics/Accounting/Geography/Music/Art/Applied Maths/Physics/Chemistry/Classical Studies/Italian/Spanish
Which one would suit me the best?(in terms of learning it- i need to get a H1 and study it in 9 months)I like to learn off things but I'm not really mathsy- I get along very well with languages as I came close to a H2 in my LC this year coming in Ireland with 0 French.Learnt everything in one year.I also can't write really fast, so even if I'd like Geography would not suit me.
    I was thinking Ag Science/Economics/Accounting/Classical Studies/Italian/Spanish
Is Ag Science hard to get a H1 in? Or Economics?I do business but I got a bad grade in it so I don't know wheter to do economics. What about Italian/Spanish? Which would be the easiest to study in NINE MONTHS?Thank you.

Well definitely don't do 9 subjects. It's such a waste of time. You only need the points for 6!! But having a back-up is very important too just in case you mess up one exam on the day. Also taking up two new subjects can be a real struggle. You're learning 2 year courses in 1 year. That being said I took up Geography and Economics this year when I repeated and managed to get a H1 and H2 respectively.

I wouldn't advise taking Italian or Spanish, as you're expected to have 5 years of study done for them (3 years of junior cert and 2 years of leaving). It'd be very difficult to learn a language to that kind of standard in 9 months. However, Russian and Japanese are two languages which are only available for leaving cert. You're only expected to have two years of study (maybe 3 with TY) so they might be more doable. Depends on your ability to learn a language really.

If you're a very slow writer than under no circumstances would geography be a good option. It's a great subject and I loved it but literally everyone is writing for every second of that exam and a friend of mine who just happens to be a slow writer didn't manage to finish (although he may have had bad time management too, so idk).

Music would only be a good option if you can play an instrument. The practical is worth 50%. Also I'd imagine you'd have to have done junior cert music too. Similarly, only do Applied Maths if you're good at Maths and Physics (not necessary but it is helpful). That being said it's quite a short course and could definitely be done in a year. Again only do Art if you're good at art. The practical work is worth a large portion of the exam so you really need to be good at it.

Don't do Physics or Chemistry in a year. They're both very large courses and have a huge amount of learning (and understanding!) and if you've only got a year to do it, you're gonna have to focus on just learning stuff rather than understanding it. That being said Physics & Chemistry combined is a lovely subject and much easier in terms of the volume of work. There's a lot of choice on the paper and you can cut your workload down significantly. It might definitely be something you could look into.

Economics is a great course. It's actually a bit harder than people make out but it's still fine! It's not similar to Business so don't worry about it that way. The course is quite short too so you'd fly through it.

I've no experience personally with Ag Science, Accounting or Classical Studies but there all subjects people often talk about doing in a year so I guess they must be doable. That being said, do subjects you have an interest in and they'll be less of a task to study.

I can only speak about Economics.

It's a very short course so definitely doable in one year. This is the last year of the current course. They are changing the course because at the moment it is very much suited to a student who likes to learn things off and reproducing points that the student has memorised.

Questions tend to repeat themselves year on year so doing out past papers over and over is a great was to revise.

They paper has become slightly more difficult in recent years - introductions questions that require students to think about their answers in relation to current affairs.

There is excellent choice on the paper. Section A is work 100 marks. You must answer 6 short questions out of 9. Section B is worth 300 marks. You must answers 4 out of 8 long questions.

Only a small percentage of students get a H1 in economics but it's seen as a subject that's "easier" to do well in (H2 or H3).

Gonna go against the grain somewhat and say that if you learned French that quickly, Spanish or Italian is definitely an option. If you study a language from scratch at university you're expected to get that same high standard anyway, though admittedly there's more time in that case. Plus both of those have prescribed literature as an option, which I imagine would be very useful for marks if approached strategically, and with a good grounding in French neither language is particularly difficult. I'd probably recommend Spanish since more people do it and, even though Italian is closer to French, there are tons of resources out there for Spanish.

I also think from your trouble with HL English and (sorry for being nosy :) ) your post history that you might be a native German speaker? If so, have a look at the Dutch exam. It's aimed at native speakers, but the standards aren't insanely high on the EU language exams... you need to be precise and correct, but the topics themselves can be quite simple.

Hi Starface. Are you sure this is the Final Year of the Current Leaving Cert Economics Course. I don't think this is the last year of the current Leaving Cert Economics course. I think they are finalising the back ground Paper for a new Course. And it will be ready to roll out in 2 to 3 years time. This is where i think we are at with Economics. I know you are a Teacher and may have more greater information than me. Are you sure this is the last Year of the Economics Course. Many Thanks Starface.
