What did the oil additive fix?!

    Hi all,

I have a Peugeot 5008 with 100,000 miles, original turbo, which wasnt loved by it's previous owner. 1.6 HDI, has had a new chain, sump, injector seals x 4, and a general desludge of the engine.

I got it for a good price, so i'm not too bothered by it's impending doom.

When I change the oil I run some liqu-moli engine cleaner, drain the oil, flush with some fresh oil, then fill with the recommended 5W30.

I get 2000 miles of perfect running, but then I get top end banging after a long journey(about 10 per second at 1000 rpm). If I flush and change the oil again, the problem goes away for 2000 miles again.

I added some oil stabilizer to it when it started banging last week, and it has run perfectly since.

What could this have fixed? Could it be a hydraulic lifter, big end bearing, top end oil starvation?

I would love to try and fix it, but i'm not too sure whats actually wrong.

    Ken
