Spacious and economical car for 7k

Husband drives an '06 Mercedes C200. Its a lovely car but between tax (950), tyres and a sensor we shortly need to spend around 2K on it. He commutes 60 km every day on mostly country roads.

We have twins, which will be going into extended rear facing seats in about 6 months time. And husband is 6'2, so while my car (audi q5) is the main family car at present, we do need something with a bit of space as back up. Not necessarily boot space but passenger space is important.

Any suggestions for the not very high budget of 7k? We ve been looking at Kia Ceed. My first choice money no object would be a mondeo estate.

Maybe we should keep the merc, but running two big cars is silly too.

I cannot see a Ceed being much bigger on the inside over a C Class to be honest. Something like a Mondeo hatchback would offer more space than both but on your budget you will probably be looking at a 2010 model.

Isn't your car smaller than a Ceed though techie?

A Skoda Superb might be a good choice

Looks smaller but more room inside, and that's coming from someone who had 2 x Ceed's :)

Last of the b5 Skoda superbs would be a solid shout. Can get 2008 ones with a reliable 115bhp 1.9tdi engine and cheap tax for a relatively low asking price.

Just be wary of clocked ex taxis etc.

Hard to find a clean Mk1 Superb these days, the newest ones are 9 years old now and most have been either taxied to death or used as road legal farm machinery. They are rather dated too being based on a Passat that was launched 20 years ago.
