Hi we live in the country in Westmeath and are currently with 3. The broadband coverage is putting it politely crap, very slow and keeps dropping. We are currently out of contract so we were wondering if we have any alternatives. We were on the old national broadband scheme and I've tried meteor and Vodafone in the past but couldn't get a connection. The telephones line is also no good we are too far from the exchange.
Has anybody any experience of satellite broadband? Is it any good? Or is it still expensive?
    Any suggestions please

Check for fixed wireless providers that cover your area.
    (I don't have a link at present)

    Satellite is not suitable IMO.

I've checked with eir and our line isn't broadband enabled. So that option is out. Why is satellite not suitable

    Do a search for

    "fixed wireless broadband providers"

and see if any of them service your area.

Satellite is not suitable for many reasons ..... one of which is latency and another is data caps.

OP here is the link he was looking for - drop the marker on your house and tick the Wireless ISPs option, it'll show you who might provide coverage to you.

+1 Satellite is the worst form of midband (it's not broadband) - I had it for a while and it was utter total and complete shyte. It's expensive, has stupid data caps, latency is a pain and it doesn't work when it rains ... and what do we get a lot of in Ireland?

I'm on Fixed Wireless since at 3 down 1 up and it's pretty much bullet proof. YMMV.

    Try "Imagine". https://www.imagine.ie

It's much better than mobile broadband or satellite.

Ripplecom are the one of the biggest wireless operators in the country. There are poor reports on here about their customer service, but you're very unlikely to have people coming on just to praise them.

I think they have data limits too, so be sure to check these out, but if they're the only one covering you, give them a call and find out if they can actually hit your house with a signal.
