My Dads mate works for lidil and he was telling the ould lad that they are going to be selling their own brand tyres starting next year.
I guess it would be like wallmart in the states.
Would you buy Lidil tyres ?
I would if they had all the paperwork.

I've bought plenty of different things for the house and car in Lidl and they always seem to be decent quality. The fact that they're being sold by a discount supermarket wouldn't bother me, but you'd still have to go off and get someone to fit them, the hassle of that would put me off.

I'd certainly give them a try anyway.

I have only ever ran on budget tyres and am still motoring so yeah, I'd at least give them a try.

If they were from Lidl, they'd probably be a hell of a lot better than what can be found in most discount tyre places these days.

For Lidl to sell them, they'd have to adhere to all EU safety requirements.

Where are they going to put them? Walmarts tend to be a bit bigger than lidl stores.

Miles better than any part-worn tire...

Where do they put the canoes and patio furniture?

Shop will get a pallet load, and they'll sit beside the nectarines until they're gone.

This is the issue with this stuff. You can't just decide "I need a set of tyres , I'll go to Lidl" on the day you need tyres. You have to buy tyres on the day they sell them.

True, but some people plan ahead. My guess is they'll come in with the Autumn/Winter driving stuff, and again with the Spring/Summer. Fresh set on the summer alloys, and fresh set on the winter ones.

In Germany they only sold them online and not in shop first time they trialed this. In Germany they have actually a lot of "online only" Items, like Bikes, Furniture, Holidays etc.

Unless they intend to open an Irish Online Shop I doubt they will ever sell tires here.

Wonder would they take in the old tyres?

Yeah, I reckon I'd give them a go. I've used their Fully Synthetic car engine oil. No problems, €5 a litre. But I imagine the tyres may be branded as Lidl, but they may be manufactured in China by a tyre manufacturer, the same way they don't manufacture engine oil, just buy it in volume from a supplier, with their packaging on it. You don't know what you're getting though. Lidl would contract for a tyre or oil supplier and whoever is the lowest bidder gets it, but their quality on most stuff is OK. After a while their tyres would be reviewed on tyrereviews.co.uk check em' out on that. If they can match some of the online tyre retailers like oponeo.ie might be worth it.

If it was a well known brand name, then yeah np if price is right.

They have sold brand name goods before. If it was low budget end tyres, I wouldn't go near them. I don't but **** tyres now, I won't when Lidl start selling them. But if I can save a small fortune on good quality tyres, I will. I sometimes buy my tyres online as it is and have a tyre fitter fit them for a fee. If he can match the price or beat them on his own decent tyres, then I get them from him.

I put up a screen shot, they were selling GoodYear.

I presume that it'll be an online service, that will piggy back off an existing company, just like their photo developing service in the uk, and Aldi's photo service here. Aldiphotos.ie

Goodyear is a good brand but can be gotten on a lot of sites. Obv it depends on what type of tyre, load, summer, winter, run flats, speed etc etc but here's the same size and brand of tyre on Oponeo.

    You're correct.

It'll just be another option to buy online.

Competition is always good for the consumer.

It'll be a service that will suit some, and not others, unless they include hard Chinese plastic tyres in their available inventory.

    Edited your link...it went crazy

True but you gonna need them eventually unless you're thinking you might be selling your car.

I bought a full set of run flats back in November, only had the rear two fitted this week.

Still have the front two to be fitted. (Probably dec/jan)

Some people buy tyres in advance, when finances allow.

If lidl do an online tyre service , its definitely something I would consider, ... after comparing other online prices for quality rubber.

Just this week mrs echo needed 2 tyres after her nct, I just bought 4 kumos locally, with a local person discount, cost €265 fitted etc.
Could have bought online for €210 inc shipping. But then, I'd have to pay for fitting.. worked out the same price, .. and I didn't have to wait for delivery.

So .. both systems work for me,.. depending on which car , bike, classic etc I'm buying for, and how soon I need rubber.

    It's all relative

Went to Lidl for a litre of milk and sliced pan, came home with 4 tyres and a chain saw.... Puts them in the shed with all the other Lidl/Aldi bargains I didn't need, happy days though.

I need a chainsaw.. but not an electric one.

Once upon s time quinsworth sold groceries.. now Tesco sell fuel additives (redex) printer refills, and everything else..

It's only a matter of time before we can buy tyres thru a supermarket.. and that might be an online option, just like online photo services.

Who'd hadn't thought you could rent a dvd online.. .. a business model that resulted in netflix.
    Which spawned Amazon prime.

The future is what you mock

Got premium tyres in the supermarket when in France, fitted, while i did my shopping. Was exactly half the price they were at home.

Yea this isn't unusual at all I've seen tyres in supermarkets in Spain, France and the states so I doubt its that uncommon.
