GAP insurance

I have declined this before on my last two new cars, but a recent accident where 10k worth of damage was done to our car through no fault of our own has made me think some more about this.

We will be taking delivery of a new car in a couple of weeks. My insurance policy with allianz appears to replace your vehicle with a new one of the same spec within the first year. On that basis is gap not really applicable in year one?

Then its down to whether what we will owe after year 1 exceeds the likely replacement value of the car?

or am i missing something obvious?
