Without going into too much detail, I have been out of college for 4 years.

I have my degree, it's a technical degree. I got a one year contract doing a job I liked related to this degree.

Then I got a job and for numerous reasons it ended up not being related (similar industry though) to job 1 or my degree.

This is not what I want to do.

Now, I have my CV done and I don't feel confident I will be viewed by employers as employable because I have 3 years experience out of 4 not directly related to the job I would like (along the same lines of job 1).

My questions are, would employers ever think of looking at me?

What advice would you give me to me to give myself the best chance at getting a job related to job 1?

I have my CV done and have applied for some jobs a few weeks back but I heard absolutely nothing back. Now, I didn't apply for loads but probably 7 or 8 online.

Today I applied for maybe another 10.

I feel really worried that if I ever leave my current job I won't get another job because my degree is not related to job 2. :(

Also should I put the experience and education above the experience of the current job?

Can you connect it to the job you're looking for?

For example; shelf stacking manager in Tescos could say they have experience in logistics, interpersonal organisation, etc.

I have tried to do that in my duties and achievements for my current job but I'm still not feeling confident people will look at my CV any other way than "not done this job for 3 years and little experience, pass".

I have applied for a number of jobs the last few days and have not received anything back, not so much as an email. I know it doesn't happen right away but even a few interviews would put me at ease that I have a chance.

It might not be the best time to be looking now as people are still on holidays etc., so things can be slow to happen - hopefully it will all kick off again in September and you'll have a bit of luck :)

Put your experience up top. Highlight the year of relevant experience to sell yourself effectively and link any aspects of your other experience to the type of role you are looking for. Make sure you tailor your CV to the role.

By the way it's better to apply for 4 or 5 roles with a CV and cover letter that is tailored to the requirements than lashing out 10 or 20 CV'S. Try and stand out from the dozens of generic CV'S that the recruiter will receive and link your skills and experience directly with what's being asked for.

    Thanks!

Would you put my latest experience first as normal or would you put the one from 3/4 years ago top?

Also most of the jobs, if not all, only looked for a CV. It was indeed.ie
