im 24 and will soon be living in wicklow and in order to get my gun and hunting licences i need permission to shoot or be part of a club. does anyone have any advice on clubs that would accept and help train unlicenced people like myself? or anyone with a bit of land who would do up a letter? i have no intention of actually using the property just the letter. any help much appreciated

Why do you want permission to shoot on someone's land if you have no intention of doing any shooting ? Are you just looking to tick the box on the FCA1 so you can have a gun to impress your mates. Mods have a look at this one please same kind of question asked a couple of different times.

He wants a deer rifle (.270), has paid a deposit but has no actual land to shoot on nor has he any shooting experience.

He also isn't happy to go down the normal route of getting a smaller rifle, learning the ropes and working up towards fullbore shooting.

I'm no expert, but I'd say the chances of getting a .270 with no experience, no smaller calibre already, and no land is fairly slim. A neighbouring farmer to me had trouble getting a licence for a .270 for foxes that were attacking his livestock as he had no previous experience. Eventually got the licence after licensing a .22 for a while first.

Makes no sense putting a deposit on a gun if you have nowhere to shoot it. In my mind you would get the permission first then apply for the gun license. From reading all this guys post to be honest he sounds like a bit of a spoofer.

im opening up to the idea of going for .22 first but understand its contrary to what i was told before in person so sorry if i dont automatically jump on the idea :/

i was told that if i find a range that will let me join without a licence and that allows 270 to be shot then id be fine going to the guards with that then after a while of going stalking with friends (not actually doing the hunting) just learning to gralloch and track etc then go for hunting licence while iv gotten a years practice. i said on another thread that i dont want to shoot a dear for at least a year or so i wanna do this right but i know **** all basically thats why im here

You are posting in a forum that is populated with people who know a fair bit about shooting, and you are telling these people why they are all wrong and you are right.

Your knowledge of firearms seems to be limited to a powerpoint presentation and someone one who told you to go get a .270.

Perhaps drop the attitude and the sense of entitlement to a firearm, start over and ask for advice as what is the safest way to start learning how to shoot. Hint: it doesn't involve deposits on .270s and powerpoints...

I know of no clubs that will allow a .270 other than the Midlands, most clubs are .22 subsonic, we agree?

To start out in hunting first time license should be a .22lr or .17hmr. No FO in their right mind would sign off on a complete newbie licensing a .270 because that's what the guy in the gun shop told him to buy. Thats my opinion but then again I'm not in to wasting people's time and getting attention from this forum by telling guys with years of hard earned experience that their wrong and I'm right because "my brothers friend Brendan who knows a guy who sells guns told me everything I need to know". Jog on spoofer

You're looking to licence a firearm not a computer game. Treat it a bit more seriously. You asked and got good advice and are choosing to ignore it. Thread closed.
