Is it just Maynooth for a fiver?

I picked one up in Maynooth last night for a fiver. A good few crates left at that stage.

Just picked up 4 boxes in Maynooth for €20, approximately 30 boxes left. Cracking bargain.

They're in a spot of bother

    https://fora.ie/rye-river-brewing-losses-3496313-Jul2017/

but that sounds like a fire sale. Not my up of tea (and I like my craft beer), but each to their own.

picked up a pack on the way home from work. They were marked at €5 on the shelf and scanned at €5. BB date is End November 2017.

Couldn't find any in Clearwater. Had then four pack sampler. No 12 pack

Cheers for the tip, dropped in there and picked up 3 cases! Still about 20 cases I'd reckon. The case that was open had a b/b of between Sept and October so should be fine I guess.

Tenner in Clarehall! Still good value though

I'd say it's just that the beers are (nearly) short dated.

They could help themselves if they got away from the stupid almost childish, cartoon branding ...

5 euro in Balbriggan last night. Had to ask someone to get me a box from the back though so offer could be over today

I hate the name, i presumed it was a Lild brand when i first saw them. Still though I do enjoy their Big Bangin IPA, not a fan of the rest of the range.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭Buck

None in Rathfarnham yesterday, even asked the staff. They haven't had those in for a while. :(

Does anyone know why there would be 3 different price points on the same product?

Yeah I agree. Especially if theyre aiming for foreign markets, as the article shared earlier suggests.

Rye River IPA sounds much more transferrable to me than McGargles Cousin Rosie IPA

Anyone found them on offer in Limerick?

I was in Roxboro yesterday and they were €10.
Bought one anyway, but if they are around for a fiver, I'd pick up one more :)

RR do a fair few different IPAs across their different ranges though - McGargles, Grafters, Whiplash, Crafty Brewing etc.

Do agree though, the McGargles name and the branding of the older bottles is awful.

The newer McGargles stuff (Export, Double Banging, Little Banging and IPA) have toned down the bottle branding somewhat though.

As a former RRBC employee maybe the reason they don't all stock it is that often big promos just get allocated to certain stores. This was the case when I worked there, local managers didn't have such control.

Local systems are Auto replenish stock control and managers can do special orders but they rarely do it and reps rarely ask them. Unless a product has a good sales history it gets delisted locally so the buyer isn't good to allocate a load of stick to them.

There was 4 packs for €8 in my local there this evening, but there was also 12 packs for a tenner (loads left)

Are people sure they're getting the 12 packs for the €8, and not getting confused?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭Danny2580

    12 bottles for €5 Tescos Maynooth, 48 for €20, ~42p per bottle.

    Tenner in Ardkeen, Waterford

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,387 ✭✭✭brokenarms

    Short dated.

And its very noticeable in the taste.

hard to beat for a fiver though.

Only had 4 pack for €8 in lucan yesterday.

They did have a load of craft cans marked down to €1. (Yellow sticker on barcode). Expiry 9th Sept. One was Metalman American style pale ale and another in a Blue can (can't remember name). Normally 4 for €10. 330ml.

About 3 trays of each on shelf.

anyone notice that nearly all of these beers overflow when opened? it's a pain, also they mostly don't taste great. waste of a tenner to be honest.

Yes! Got a 12-pack last Saturday, I've had 4 or 5 and every single one of them has overflowed when opened.

I like it though. Wouldn't be mad on the brown ale but f**k it, it's brown ale, of course it's minging. Otherwise it's good stuff and still a serious bargain.

Thats maybe tell tale sign they have been in a warm bottle for a long time.

Few yeast cells going to work and creating lots of co2.

McGarggles should have insisted they got dumped IMO

Not doing themselves any favours from a brand loyalty perspective then, perhaps.

Jesus lads, I was just logging on to say this.

Only opened two bottles last night, (that's all I could stomach) of the IPA and imo, they were very over carbonated and didn't exactly set the world on fire in the taste department either.

Had a long week with work, purposely denied myself beer until last night so I would enjoy some in peace only to have two bottles of what seemed like fizzy goats piss.

I think I will visit a Polonez this evening and get myself some Zyweic, McGargles can be my give to visitor beer.

There you have it. 12 bottles of bad beer will put you off a brand that is quite good .

Tescos have tarnished their reputation in a cost cutting exercise.

In fairness, a guy not liking it does not mean it's bad. Just means he didn't like it.

I'm polishing off the last of my 12 bottles now. Apart from the brown ale (what's the story with that stuff?), it was all very tasty.

IApart from the brown ale (what's the story with that stuff?), it was all very tasty.

The brown ale was particularly bad ... not of fan of the Red ale or stout either but the lager and IPA's (normal and "banging") were fine.
