    Hi,

I know that you can claim the relief when you pay the medical expenses on behalf of someone (less any refunds / health insurance, etc).

But if the parent who paid the medical expenses has no tax liability, can their child who has a tax liability cliam the relief from the expenditure incurred by the parent? (Some of the expenditure would have been for the child specifically)

    Thanks

No. They'd be better off to gift money to the child and the child pay their expenses using the money...

    Thanks,

I was thinking of something along that line. It's almost €10k in expenses so there's €2k of a credit available. A shame to let it go.

Yup. You can't get a tax relief for an expense that someone else incurred; only for your own expenses. If you pay the medical bills, then you can claim the relief.
