Cooker Switch Question

Bought a cooker switch yesterday but was surprised to hear that the supplier did not sell switch and socket combination like the one I am replacing. I see you can buy the combo online from the UK. Is there a safety regulation here forbidding the use of the combo?

The socket must be protected by an RCD and shouldn't be run off the cooker feed. From memory these were used in the uk where the sockets and cooker were all run off a 32A ring circuit.

It would be best to get someone in to install a socket, if you have that old type cooker switch it wouldn't do any harm to check out the rest of the installation.

You are replacing a very old cooker switch. These have been outlawed in Ireland for decades.
I'd definitely get an electrician in for this one. The switch is so old that if it was my home I'd want it checked right back to the fuse box.

Thanks for the informed opinions. The electrician I deal with is away this week but he will be installing an elcb and I will get him to check everything. I wasn't happy about using the old switch after changing the cooker. I will get him to run a separate socket as I haven't a straightforward feed. I was curious how they were legal in the UK but not here. Now I know, thanks
