Back pain. Probably disc.

    Hello,

I am 21 years old in October, and I suffer from back pains for few years. It used to be lower back, it was slight discomfort when I was sitting for too long or doing some lifting. I had to lie down for this to go away.

Now recently I started a new job where I have to lift glass, and I got pain somewhere in my upper back. I started to tense my abs more and avoid lifting with my back, it was still sore but not as often. Would you say it was the technique?

And now, I don t know what I did wrong but my disc hurts. It is my 2nd day and it's around bottom (lumbar) and middle (thoracic), but I feel like it s the very end or nearly end of lumbar. Now when I bend down I can feel the pain or when I put pressure with my fingers on it.

I don t know what to do now, I don t want to have bad back for future. Any advice?

    Thanks.

    Go to the doctor

It may be something as simple as needing physio

    1. See a doctor.

    2. See a physiotherapist.

At your age, unless you've had a back injury (and you'd remember if you had), back pain of this kind could well be related to posture. And, yeah, your current employment could well be exacerbating the problem.

I might go. But is there no other specialist that takes care of back problems? As I don't want to go waste money on doctor so he/she can tell me that I need to go to some other specialist.

    A physiotherapist.

But you need to see a doctor first, in case there is a medical issue. That's not the most likely cause of your back pain, but of the possible causes it is the most serious, and the one you least want to neglect. So you need to investigate it and (hopefully) rule it out.

There's every chance that the doctor's advice will be "go and see a physiotherapist" but, trust me, getting that advice will not be a waste of money.

Doctor first, for one thing you'll need to have that on your medical history in case there's an ongoing issue needing further investigation, after that no one here can say anymore with any certainty, we are not professionals and can't advise even if we were.. I do hope it's simple to remedy though.. Best of luck!.

    This!

It's something I should've done more often when younger with back pains as in the unlikely event that it might be something medical, it's best to be caught in the early stages.

If needs be, the GP can refer you for xrays, etc. at no extra cost as a referral.

The physio might suggest a program that will help strengthen your core and back.
