Our new kitchen extension has a vaulted ceiling and a number of velux windows. Our hob will be in the island. Only type of extractor that suits is a downdraft type. Does anyone have a similar set up & feel in hindsight there was no need for the extractor? Is opening the veluxs sufficient? Are we mad to even consider not putting one in? Thanks for any input.

Can it take a carbon filter and then there's no need to vent externally?

Yes, we could go with that option but we've already put a duct in the floor for external venting so that part isn't a problem. It's more to do with the quartz worktop & getting a hole for the extractor cut into it or not.

We got it done, but it's only in 2 or 3 weeks. Working well so far, hole cut in the quartz is no problem.........however the stone crowd did make a mistake in their first attempt and had to do a new slab, but it was their measurement mistake.

Ours isn't vented externally, it's re-circulating and has a carbon filter. We have a 900mm hob and it seems to be able to suck the steam/smoke from anywhere on the hob.

Also, if you like them look at the Bora hobs or Siemens domino which has the extractor as part of the hob.
