Paralegal/legal secretary/legal assistant ???

How do I become a paralegal/legal secretary/legal assistant in Ireland without a law degree?
I have an unrelated level 8 degree, but I have a huge interest in the law and I'd like to go down the solicitor route, but unfortunately I don't have the money for it at all right now.
I was thinking of trying one of the above jobs and saving for a few years first, or even just sticking to one of the above jobs indefinitely if I end up really enjoying it!

Any advice/tips on how to get this kind of job without a legal degree? Or would it be worth my while doing a one-year level 6 degree or something first?

Any people with any of the above careers who can share their experiences?

Many firms do not want over qualified or over ambitious legal secretaries or paralegals. I know of a qualified barrister working as a legal typist who didn't tell the employers about the qualification. The best thing to have is a high typing speed and high heels.
