    Hello All,

Could some people share their knowledge and experience and give me their opinion on this laptop.

Ill be using it for college work, i.e. Microsoft office, browsing the web etc etc

Its also within my price range.

Im looking at the 17'. Would this be considered too big?

Processor seems good and RAM also seems good.

    Thanks

It will do all you have mentioned no problem really. I would downsize to a smaller screen though if you are going to be carrying it around a lot. I'd also replace the hard drive with a SSD unless you envisage storing a ton of data on it.

I doubt it will be leaving my house, so no real issue with moving it around, so i think the large screen may be good in that respect!

The machine is large and heavy, coming in at close to 3kg. You'd really know about it if you were carrying it anywhere tbh. Why it has a DVD drive I don't know. But it will do what you want with no issue. As mentioned by mordeith, lack of SSD just means that it will be slower than machines with one. SSDs are becoming the norm now, but not so much on more budget machines.

what would you think of this as an alternative. Its an SSD and seems a bit thinner.

Do you think 2 in 1 laptops are a bit of a gimic?

I reckon the 2 in one thing is a bit of a gimic, I couldn't see myself using it at least. But you wouldn't be forced to use it if you had it I suppose.

So just to be clear. The original machine you posted will absolutely do what you need. It being large may not be a disadvantage if it is going to spend it's life in your house. If it is something that you are going to be carrying around even a little bit I think I would be looking at something smaller.

As for the SSD. An SSD will make almost any machine feel incredibly fast compared to an old style HDD spinning disk. But you generally pay a little more and get less storage space. 256GB is by no means too little for storing documents and general day to day files. If you have a tonne of photos or videos you may run into issues however.

It might be worth heading to a shop and seeing the size of some similar machines. Although you might not find too many 17" machines around!

    sorry to resurrect this.

I went and viewed some laptops, namely the dell inspiron 17.3"

Im delighted i looked at it because it is a monster. I prefer smaller and sleeker designs

I found this one which i like. Its sleek, good ram, good processor and good memory.

Only problem is that it is a 2 in 1. Now, i probably wont use this functionality but the 2 in 1's seem so much skinnier than the others

    What are opionions oin thins??
