Have been driving through Leixlip a few times recently and noticed that the building works for the new Aldi seems to have stopped at the old Ryevale Tavern sight. Anyone shed any light?

I heard that they make all the Aldi units in Germany and ship them over. Apparently they had the wrong measurements for the Leixlip site so they have to build the unit again from scratch. No idea if this is true or not - that's what I heard anyway.

or builder's holiday? Many sites are closed from Friday 4th to Tuesday 22nd August (2 weeks + bank holiday).

    Thanks Funnyoinion79 :).

CelilingFly, site closed for a good month now, so don't think it is builder's holidays. Thanks.

They won't. KCC aren't at the races when it comes to proper planning.

Local gossip is that site is built over a sewage pipe ( presumably this is a fresh 'discovery'!) and project has stalled indefinitely .Heard from a different source that waste water handling is on such a knife edge that not so much as a rabbit hutch will be built around Leixlip until a new / bigger water treatment plant is built .
Anyone who has passed the bridge near daVincis will need no reminder of this stench .Hopefully local politicians behaviour in regard to this issue , Wonderful Barn etc will not be equally noxious .

Waste water capacity planning is done (by IW, not the council) as part of the planning process; they can't/don't revoke it after grant.

The smell around the bridge is from stagnant surface water drains, and something KCC hasn't been able to cure for time immemorial. I've no doubt if the problem was in Naas it would have been cured long ago.

Having said that it's possible the outflow pipe is under the Aldi site.

Heard it's going to be November/December when it opens.

March 2018 is the latest target opening date

That is an incredibly long construction time for an Aldi, even on a non-standard site.

Anyone know what they'll be doing with what was once Darkies? The original planning permission mentioned offices, which would be a pity, but at least the building will still be there, unlike the Hitchin Post.

Offices. Only the historic building to the front is protected, the rest (at the back) has long been demolished.

They stripped the render off the original building a few weeks ago, bringing it back to the original beautiful stone, only to cover it all up again with fresh render again.

Thursday 24th according to the Liffey Champion FB page.
There's a sign on the wall outside but I can't recall what time it says.

Just to follow up on this: the sign outside it says 9am on the 24th.
Prepare for the crowds wanting to buy cheap crap blocking commuting traffic!

Drove past it this morning and there's signs up saying opening is Thursday the 7th of June at 9am.

Saw that a short while ago. Given that it looks almost finished, that's a big delay. I wonder what the cause was.

Nonetheless, it means an extra two weeks before traffic gets mucked up because of the place!
