Hi travel boardies. Would you know if I book a legroom seat (with priority boarding) on a Ryanair flight will it alone ensure my bag will come on board with me?

Or do I also have to book the 10 euro fee for "Guaranteed carry on bag on board"?

From experience, with priority boarding you always have space for your bag. Unless for some weird reason 100 people decide to get priority boarding :|

Thanks, I remember the same experience but it was well over a year ago. But don't they sometimes go around the terminal before people board and randomly stick tags on people's bags to indicate it needs to go under, even if the bag is correct size? I vaguely remember seeing this too?

Yes they still do that as current as 2 months ago, and even if you are in the priority lane, you may still get your bag tagged and sent under, but you may talk with the person and explain you don't want it, and because you're in line to board firs, they just may let it go - again this was from first hand experience, and assuming you don't have 100 people with carry on luggage buying priority boarding

My.last two flights with Ryanair they were late working through boarding calls (or maybe plane was late) and they started boarding priority and non priority queues at the same time together.

That was certainly a waste of priority premium fee
Moral being, Ryanair will do whatever suits them irrespective of whether you've paid for a particular service.

With Priority Boarding, they won't ask you to gate-check your larger bag unless they have too many Priority passengers. There's no separate service for "guaranteed cabin bags," so if Priority Boarding is already included with your seat or your ticket, you don't have to purchase anything else.

There's really no other advantage to Priority Boarding, though (unless you've got a crippling case of MGIF; do you own an Audi? :pac: ), so it's not worth paying separately for unless you simply can't check your larger carry-on for some reason.

Good rule of thumb, if your bag is off the floor you will never be asked to check it. I chose a satchel but a suitcase with shoulder straps is equally immune.

Ok, thanks everyone.. I guess it's worth the risk. It's not the biggest deal, but I'm only travelling for a couple of days so every second counts! It's a pity they don't have a smart way of only doing this to people who already have other bags checked under the plane and would be waiting anyways.

Maybe it's a new thing. I saw when checking ticket prices that there was this option called "guaranteed cabin bags" for 10 euro, and the description said that you were guaranteed the ability to bring your bag on board.

No no.. No Audi for me. I'm well past the starter car.. Rolls Royce or nothing.. You know the best for the best and all that.. Anyways, back to trying to avoid over-paying for my Ryanair flight :pac:

"guaranteed cabin bags" is a tag line on the option to buy priority boarding

    it isn't a seperate thing

how times changed, first they charge for putting bags in the hold so over time people change their behaviour...........roll on the years and now we arrive at the stage where we are paying extra to be allowed do what they always wanted us to do in the first place

Only just travelled with R.A. without priority boarding on a full flight. The staff came along the queue Asking passengers if they wanted to put their carry on case into the hold. Nowhere did I hear them tell anyone that they Had to.
Our bags were on the floor when we were asked and our No Thanks answers were immediately accepted.

They allow 90 large bags in the plane, after that they will tell people that they have to go in the hold. So it depends where you are in the queue.

If they are cabin sized you can bring them on, but they have to go in the footwell. I remember years ago I was approached and I told them my case containted a laptpp and important original documents and under no circumstances was I letting it go in the hold and risk them going missing. So it went in the footwell.

Yep, seems like as soon as I selected priority seat at the front, this option was greyed out with an "included already" indication. However, before it seemed like an option someone could select separately to priority boarding. But I'm not sure. It's sorted anyways with my fancy seat at the front of the plane:-)

Yep, they'll never check under-seat personal items; even for the few seats that can't actually put them underneath (exit rows and bulkheads), they can find enough space to squeeze 'em into the bins. For the larger bags that have to go in the bins, they'll usually go asking for volunteers first; only if they don't get enough voluntary bag checks will they start forcing some (non-priority-boarding) people to check 'em.

A certain amount of bags will always need to be gate checked. All bags on busy or full flights do not physically fit in the cabin. While staff may I ask if you'd like to have your baggage checked it will come to a point where it's not optional. As physically no more bags can fit in the lockers.
