Paypal refund problem!!!

    Hi everyone

Ive had an issue with Paypal and not sure what to do about it and mabey someone with experience with this type of thing can help?

I bought an item from a person in the UK last month, an exhaust for a car to be exact. I saw photos of the item and also the seller described it to me and it was what i was looking for so i sent payment of £120 through Paypal (goods and services). The seller then asked for a further £10 as the shipping was higher than expected so i sent this also. Some 2 weeks later i received an item which was not the item i paid for and was completely different and looked like a homemade job!.

I contacted the seller straight away asking what was going on and why had they sent me what they had to which they simply answered if i was not happy return it, simple as and would not answer my question as to why they had sent this and not the item i purchased. I told them i would certainly return it as it was not what i had paid for.

I opened a dispute through Paypal and messaged the seller through there and they replied that they would refund £120 if i returned the item. So i arranged a courier and returned the item, but the same day the item was delivered to them the dispute was escalated to a claim by either the seller or Paypal im not sure?

Anyway, Paypal reviewed the case and came back to me some days later saying i was entitled to a full refund if i returned the item to the seller. I replied that i had already returned the item and had proof of the item being delivered to the seller to which Paypal replied that they had requested info from the seller and would be in touch with me. Well today i received an email from Paypal stating that the case was not decided in my favour!!

How can this be? I returned the item with proof, so now the seller has my £130, plus the item back in their possession and on top of that i paid for the return of the item by courier

Has anybody any experience with a situation like this? I have been using Paypal for about 8 years for peace of mind incase of this sort of this happening so i knew i would not be at the loss of my money and now the first time ive had a problem and i have requested a refund it is denied?? I just dont understand it!

I have issued a complaint with Paypal over their decision but doubt they are going to do anything about themselves!!

It really is a strange one.

The only thing I can think of is that the seller claimed that the box was empty or the item was damaged or they submitted pictures of the real item and the item you received and claimed that it was YOU that supplied the wrong item.

You need to find out on what basis was the claim closed on their favour. Call them 01 436 9023 or consider a formal complaint.

Op, if your Paypal account is linked to your credit card, file a chargeback with your bank and don't waste your time with PayPal. Be sure to send your bank copies of all correspondence. I had an issue with PayPal in the past and found them absolutely useless, I went down the chargeback route and got money back. Good luck!
