Figure this deserves its own thread.

Reports are that Ric Flair is currently in a medically induced coma, as his heart is failing due to alcoholic cardiomyopathy.

I genuinely am not ready for this one :(

I ain't either and lot of WWE people are tweeting about it now when earlier they weren't which I don't like for some reason.

I'm thinking of Charlotte as she's already lost her brother and may lose her dad.

Michael Hayes tweet which doesn't sound good at all. :(:(
I saw @RicFlairNatrBoy before I flew to Boston yesterday
I can assure that he needs everyone's prayers and positive vibes. Thx in advance!!

Jeez. I seen him yesterday on the US Golf doing a promo since it was in Charlotte. Obviously it was recorded but couldn't have been more than a week ago. He didn't look any different to normal.

Alcohol related illness.... unpopular opinion but you live the life he's lead, you pay the price. If there's a donor list I can't imagine he'll be on it with that diagnosis.

Total legend, a great performer and I hope he pulls through.

Ric's successful surgery wasn't heart related according to his manager, says it's still a long road ahead and to keep him in your prayers.

Judging by the comments from Meltzer above, it could possibly be his liver failing (that's speculation) if his kidneys are functioning and it isn't heart related, especially if it's an alcohol related illness (again, speculation).

Whatever it is, I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery.

    Flair's fiancee with an update.

“Just want to give an update to my friends and Family as I have been unable to talk on the phone without crying and just feel shocked over events….. I took Ric to the Hospital Friday night with Severe Abdominal pain. From that moment on it all seems like a nightmare…multiple Organ problems. Not to go into too many details I want everyone to know he still needs Prayers as he is still in Critical Condition. And No he did not have Colon Surgery….It was another Surgery! I don’t know how the media comes up with their stories. I have been by his side since Friday and will continue to make sure he is getting the best care possible. Thanks for all of the support and Love.”

Multiple organ problems ? Mean gene okerland said it was colon surgery wasn't it ?

So it wasn't heart surgery and not colon surgery ?

So it seems the nature boy isn't out of the woods just yet.

I heard somewhere else it was his kidneys. Besides that, all the best and hopefully a full recovery for the Nature Boy.

What was/is Flair's lifestyle like on the road and outside the ring? I'm a casual wrestling fan, moreso for the biographies/autobiographies as the nature of the industry generally tends to generate some great tales and storytelling, but I don't recall too much mention of what Flair was/is like in the books I've read.

Oh, Flair outside the ring is legendary in terms of his lifestyle. His whole party boy character wasn't really a character. He loves his drink.

    Recap from this week's WON:
    - Rushed to hospital with severe stomach pains on the 12th
    - Severe bowel blockage, needing emergency surgery (14th)
    - Wasn't serious but was in ICU, worsened and now life-threatening and put in a medically-induced coma
    - lots of problems including his kidneys shutting down (now on dialysis) and "an infection" (hopefully not sepsis)
    - Family are in hospital and waiting to see if he can fight off his infection and get his kidneys working again

Just waiting and hoping for some good news.

He's a fighter- you don't get to survive a plane crash, and come back to wrestling, without being a tough sod.

    http://people.com/peopletv/video/bs/0000015e-9d40-d3c3-addf-fd7835330000/

    Ric Flair update.

For those who don't have 10 minutes, key notes:

His organs basically shut down from the decades of heavy drinking. He had been having dizzy patches likely down to his heart not functioning properly. Had he left it any longer before going in, he'd be dead now.

He was put in a medically induced coma and eventually they needed to give him surgery. They told his family there was only a 20% chance he would survive it.

They mention Ric did go to rehab a year or two back as had been rumoured. Wendy insisted. He also specifically says he did not consider himself an alcoholic but now knows he was. He can no longer drink, as you'd have assumed.

Wendy says three people were there for her at every turn and got her through it - her daughter, Steve Austin whom she'd ring every day and cry down the phone to and he would listen and settle her down, & Hulk Hogan who checked in every day and flew in to visit several times.

Ric plans on doing motivational speaking once he gets out of the wheelchair.

Must admit the Austin thing surprised me. It's heartwarming to me to know that when one of the biggest superstars in the history of the business is on his knees, the other two rallied around for him. Credit both Hogan & Austin.
