Ford Focus warm starting issues

    Hi I have a 2007 Ford Focus Mk2 1.4 petrol. (205,000km)

I bought the car only a few weeks ago from a dealer.(Still has warranty)

But the last couple of days When i drive the car for say 20 mins and stop, and re start the car within an hour of stopping it wont start first time. It cranks fine but wont fire, usually starts on second turn of the key (with help of accelerator). it is also noticeably weaker at cranking when warm. once it fires up it still idles fine and no smell of petrol.

The temperature still shows that the car is normal operating temp when i restart.

It starts up perfectly fine when cold and idles fine. I've googled the issue and have seen several different fixes and causes but none for my model. Given the focus' popularity here has anyone heard of or had this problem?

Its still under warranty so not too worried but i'm just curious as to what it might be before having it looked at. (Hopefully warranty will cover it!) The car was sitting unused for some time prior to me buying, so could fuel pump/filter be causing low fuel pressure which gets exaggerated when hot?

    Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Get the valve clearance checked. Could be tight valves, needing to be shimmed.

Lots of options, and weak fuel pump could be one, but i'd be guessing cam sensor acting up when hot, failing cam sensor can lead to extended crank - interested to find out so please post outcome

Thanks! will source one from a local breakers yard. Is it camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor? just to be sure!

Borrow a code reader from a friend or a nearby boardsie, and check for DTC's. It can get expensive guessing parts. Some sensors are cheap enough new and not really a breakers yard buy.

Thought you had warranty? wouldn't change any parts until you know the cause....

Have you read the Owner's Manual?.There should be clear instructions in it about staring on cold and warm engine.

Yes, theres nothing different about the procedure with starting cold or hot. It is something else. I'm also making sure to leave the fuel pump prime in acc mode prior to starting up.
