Well after many many many warnings my OH put a hot pan on the kitchen counter top, it's blistered and there is a big hole in it now. At the moment all I can think of is getting all new counters to fix the problem but there must be another way. Of course it's smack bang in the middle of the counter so no hiding it, which makes it even worse. Is there a way that this can be fixed? I wasn't living here when the kitchen was fitted so dunno what made if or where bought but I've attached a pic so you can get an idea, which I'll have to do in another post as on the phone app.

I'd say it is a case of replace rather than repair. Another suggestion might be to install a marble baking area something along the lines of http://tinyurl.com/yaeaqhs6

Put a chopping board over it? Maybe one of those patterned glass ones?

Cut out a section and pop in a marble/slate/smoked glass piece. Perfect for putting hot pots down on.

    Crisis is opportunity!

Well beyond the scope of most DIYers unfortunately.

They're talking about gettin new counters. I kinda have the feeling they're not planning the DIY route.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can't put a glass counter top thingy over it as it is off centre and would look mad.

I'm just a big wierdo and can't not see something like a burn in the counter, hence why I want new counters if it can't be fixed. I find it very hard to get past things like this and the burn is just in the worst place ever. It taunts me when I walk in to the room.

The marble in the counter suggestions...where would I go, any standard kitchen installation crowd? Would they install in to existing counters?

    Possibly best place to start.
Finding the right piece of marble and someone capable of fitting it without making it an even bigger eyesore could be challenging.

Any particular type questions I could ask? I know I could ask them to show me examples of previous ones that they have done but I'm always sceptical of the examples. I know if it was me I would always show the best, not any that I had ballsed up!

How complex is your counter top?
Is it a single length of 2.46 meters or less or is it longer and have an L shape?

The reason i ask is that it would be pretty straight forward to replace a single straight length of counter top of 2.46 meters or less (thats ikeas default maximum size). Once you dont have to join two pieces together then it shoul dbe a diy job.

I've done a rough drawing. There's 3 pieces of wood and the one coloured in green is the damaged one. It's 2.5 m long but I could live with 4 cm missing as it's longer than the presses underneath. Will have to check IKEA, never thought of there
