Garden willow tree fly??

Good evening all.. Could anyone tell me what kind of fly this is?? It's in its thousands on a willow tree in my garden. There are hundreds of wasps hanging around the tree as well..not sure if tgey are eating the fly eggs or just collecting bark?? Any help for a curious non green finger appreciated��

Looks like St Mark's fly to me. Usually out in April/May though.

Actually they are probably red-thighed St Mark's fly as in the link above.
