Buying brand new car in UK

Firstly, is there anything to prevent an Irish resident buying a brand new car in the UK and importing it as brand new into Ireland. I do realise that you have to pay VRT and also VAT. I've tried my best at a worked example below on a BMW 530D X-drive SE.

Firstly going to pick a higher-end car as this is where we are likely to make most savings. Car in questions is a BMW 530D X-drive SE version, no MSport in the VRT online calculator currently so have selected this one to keep out the guess work.

This car on the BMW UK website retails at £46,805 but you can pick one of these up via somewhere like coast2coastcars.co.uk for £37,764. Many people on the UK BMW forums buy there or use these guys quotes to get better deals from their own dealer. There is also a new car on autotrader advertised at £37k so lets assume £37k is the cash price we would pay.

Firstly we should deduct the UK VAT of 20% from the list price which brings it to £30,833. At today's rate of 1.1 the price we would pay is €33,916

Now we need to add on the Irish VAT of 23% which brings the cost of €41,717

So according to the revenue website the VRT is a modest €11,840.

    Now adding the VRT gives us €11,840 + €41,717 = €53557.

So now the question is did we save anything versus the Irish price of the car. The BMW Ireland price of this car is €69,950 + delivery charges. Anytime I've ever tried to negotiate with an Irish BMW dealer it's extremely difficult to get any discount and you would be doing quite well to drive away for €65k I think.

Thoughts on all this please, are they any mistakes?

Will the likes of these car brokers sell to non U.K. Residents?

I'm sure you could get somebody to buy on your behalf and then transfer to your name afterwards if they wouldn't sell to a non UK resident.

I suppose, but I reckon that new model 5 will be even better value as a 6 month old car from a U.K. Dealer and there will be a plentiful supply soon.

2, or 3, owners on a brand new car will raise questions when it's been moved on.
