I dont have Sky so dont really know.
He is with the 17 years, but his bill is now at 100 euro (20 of this is BT, so i guess thats separate, so 80 quid for sky)
He doesnt have movies and only wants to watch sport. He is using a bog standard box so nothing in HD, despite having a HD tv.
I am going to have to ring sky soon as he cant afford this at all, but what should be be expecting to pay, as a longterm customer, for Sky Sports HD. He can pretty much live without the rest of the stations.
Thanks. I know you get cheaper deals if you threaten to quit and hold tight....but he wont do that

Well if he has broadband , switching to eir for broadband he will get bt sports for free.
As for sky just go on their site and check what the prices are.
Sky sports is expensive I think.
It's over 30euro a month and the basic sky is 30 I think.
Hd adds around another 10euro onto that if he is going hd.

Reckon this is your best bet, see what options are available.

I wouldn't even call it threatening, simply mention the idea of quitting and they will look to offer a deal. This should be done every year. He would have had a HD box long ago had he done this. I assume they're giving Q boxes now.

I'm probably a bad example as I'm UK based but I have Variety, Box Sets, Sports (non HD) for £25.15 per month.

Also, longterm customer means nothing, it's the new customer who get all the perks.

Im guessing he has the variety pack which is €39 a month then Sports adds another €40 to that. So that brings him up to near enough 80 a month.

You or him definitely need to call Sky and either agree on a discounted price or just give 31 days cancellation notice and an offer of some sort is more or less guaranteed.

As above they currently have sports at half price for 6 months....Im not sure if existing customers can get the basic or variety packs for half price though. Still its better than nothing but dont hang around if you want to go down this route as the offers end on 15 August I think. But if its an old bog standard SD box he has then he/you should be also asking for a Sky+ HD box also and then see what sort of deal they will give on HD/box sets - should get it at half price.

Can you explain the BT payment as BT is UK only and the payment you state is in Euros?

Ring sky saying that you'll have to cancel as he can't afford it. You automatically get transferred to the retention department at the mention of cancelling. My daughter used to work in retention in sky. They will offer discounts for the next 12 months. These discounts can be anything between 20 and 50 percent depending on the time of year.
Sky sports channels are being rebranded. Each one dedicated to a sport. You might save by reducing the amount of sports channels. If you only like soccer then you only need one channel etc

Not true! Touchy subject with Irish customers... It's all or nothing for the sports channels. That offer is UK only. We are not worthy of offers like this.

Look at the packages available from eir for broadband and tv.

Call sky, (its an 0818 number, so call from a landline) the call will take 20min.

You will get basic tv package for about €10 + €40 for broadband and circa €30 or less for sports.

That will change shortly. We usually get a things a few months after the UK. It's early days. The rebranding is only about 2 weeks old if even that
