Is Sky the right provider for me?

TLDR: I'm looking for a provider that offers: Solid router/modem, VPN usage possible, true unlimited data use, Xbox One and PC gaming friendly.

My contract with eir is up and we're shopping for another Broadband & TV provider, because they drove us into madness over contract issues. I'm having a hard time finding the right one for us.
It's between Sky and Virgin Media at the moment.

VM was appealing to us for unlimited usage, high speeds and low price, but I read that their Hub 3 is utter rubbish and is causing dropouts. For me as a gamer, this is a red flag.
I'm also on the Xbox One and read that strict NAT is a problem with VM.
There's also the issue that we need to use VPN for work and they're assigning IPv6 addresses?!

Now I'm looking at alternatives, mainly Sky. True unlimited usage, solid speeds and high price (€100 more than VM per year).
There's little to no information about anything else (or I can't find it), specifically if their equipment is good.
Basically, I'm looking for advice about them. I know they also have truly unlimited usage and solid speeds in my area, but can I use VPN, open NAT on Xbox One, and is the equipment reliable?

Many thanks for all helpful comments.

I've been with both providers and VM are by far and away the best. I have the hub in modem mode and use a Tplink archer c8 for routing purposes. My son's game and never had any issues, even with the hub. Ipv6 can be turned off by contacting the reps here. I don't think the sky hub can be put in modem mode and it's very limited in its features.

    Thanks for the reply, jca.
Might ask what was the reason for purchasing a router? Did you have issues with the one provided by VM, other than gaming?

Unless you consume a lot of traditional TV, VM all the way. The only reason to chose sky is for their superior set top boxes.

With VM expect to contact support to remove DSLite as soon as you're setup.

I like to have a full featured router where I can change things as I need. The vm hub doesn't allow much tweaking but if you don't need anything like that it's very good at its job.

I have the older sky modem, it's garbage. 100mb ethernet, only wireless n, stuff like that.

They give out newer modems now though, so moooot.

]I wont go with sky if I could get Virgin media way better broadband. The only point going with sky is for TV and that expensive costing me €37 a month just for basic tv.

Just to add to this. I've had Sky and am Now with Virgin Media. The customer service is far better with VM. Do not go with Sky.

The VPN issue is more that they aren't assigning IPv4 addresses. If they assigned IPv4 in full dual-stack mode with IPv6 instead of using DS-Lite access to legacy IPv4 apps would still work.
